Just wondering if there is a way to make the “comments” field (the big text field) in the user review section *not* mandatory… I can see a big use case for people just wanting to use the stars / sliders to review a product, and not even bother with a comment. However, currently, if I do not enter a comment, it fails and says it is mandatory.
I’m not sure whether this is a wordpress thing, or a WP reviews thing – but it would be nice if the comments field was not mandatory. Any ideas?

Comment text area is mandatory in WordPress.
Maybe you can use a filter to replace or remove the comment text area field.

Thanks Hesham – yeah I figured that after a while 🙂 Also, I thought a bit more about it, and without some form of comment it would be hard to determine whether the review is spam or not anyway, so it’s probably a good thing!
By using the validation plugin the slider/star values are not lost if there are any validation errors. Works much better now.

Exactly, I am getting a lot of spam, some of them also do not provide a rating at all. So, I’ve added an option to make the User Rating required, without it; the user will get a message to go back and choose a rating.
P.S. The WP Reviews plugin was updated just now, you may want to upgrade it.
Using such plugin could be really useful, I like the idea 🙂
