I’ve asked parts of this question before, but I’m going to add a little more detail so you can get the full picture of what I’m trying to do.
I want to create hundreds of review categories that will each list the top rated reviews for a particular category.
Currently I can use the top rated reviews widget. As you know the widget handles post types, but not categories. So let’s say I create 400 post types.
As an aside, I think that would be problematic as each post type appears on the left side of the WordPress admin.
But let’s say I make 400 post types. How can I change the top rated reviews widget to render a different post type on each page? the widget seems to apply globally, so
as far as a I can figure out I can only select one post type using the widget.
So again the question is how can I change the post type for the top rated reviews on a page by page basis?
Also, how are you getting the widget to appear in the body of a post/page?

Jamie, creating many post types is not a good idea. I’ve updated the widget , please download the plugin again with your account. (version 126.96.36.199.9)
Install it and you will be able to select reviews by category.

Thank you. That’s exactly what I needed! I can now change the top rated review widget by category.
So on each of my 400 top rated reviews pages I need to be able to reference a different category. The widget only allows me to pick one category for the whole blog. Previously, you pointed me to some code at http://justintadlock.com/archives/2010/02/02/showing-custom-post-types-on-your-home-blog-page. Is there similar code for referencing
the categories of the top reviews widget so the category can be different on each page where the widget is called?

I didn’t understood well the first time, but I guess I got it now.
I’ve updated the plugin again, now you got to download the latest version 188.8.131.52, which has a new option in the widget (Category based?) check box, tick that check box and the widget will indicate if the visited page is a Category, then will display only reviews based on that specific category.
This option will work only on category pages, but on single posts or other pages the widget will work like it has been before the update. (I hope this makes sense).
I think this will solve your problem, and it’s also a nice addition to the plugin.
Also, check out what’s new in version 184.108.40.206
I hope this will work for you.

I was traveling for a few weeks. I just installed the update. I have two questions:
1) A category page shows a summary of all the posts in that category. I do not want to show the posts, just the category results for the top rated reviews widget. How can I get rid of the default post summaries?
2) How can I use the top rated reviews widget in the body of my post?
